DRESSCODENATION MEETS SKYLA TYLAA
"Skyla! We wanna party!" still echoes in my head the morning after—oddly enough, I don’t want it to stop. The Amapiano DJ checked off many firsts, from headlining her first sold-out show in London to sharing never-heard-before mixes in her Stellaxingyi outfit, dominating the scene as the entire atmosphere absorbed her energy.
Let’s rewind a few hours as the international DJ gives Dresscodenation an exclusive glimpse into her world, unraveling her pre-show preparation process.
As the cameras start rolling, we’re met by the undeniably warm and incredibly beautiful Skyla (Skye Pollock) Tylaa. She introduces us to her intimate team while deciding on what to eat depending on what outfit she picks out. “I always do this,” she says with a timid smile, offering to feed us all.
After a few bites, the blonde beauty leads us to her deck, while her stylist (Jermaine Robinson) unpacks a variety of garments, shoes and accessories. Skyla gives us a quick preview of what’s to come in precisely 11 hours. “I try to get ready ahead of time; I just prefer not to rush the process,” she says as she maneuvers and mimes her DJ set in her first of many outfits. It’s impressive—she gets to ‘work’ before ‘work work work work.’ She anticipates the room temperature, the movement of her body, and the vibe she gets from each piece of clothing.
As we delve into what pre-show prep looks like with Tylaa, the young yet experienced talent comes alive with every outfit change. She transforms the process into a fun spectacle, her ethereal appearance and vibrant energy transporting us into a time capsule of playing dress-up. She embodies the character each piece of clothing inspires, consulting her team-including her sister and talent manager, Jada Pollock-is essential as they keep her grounded while encouraging her self-expression.
Sticking to her ‘emo roots’ and naming Rick Owens and Chrome Hearts as her top two favorite designers, the British-born DJ remains gracefully firm yet open to exploring different looks. She archives them with pictures in a mini photoshoot.
The winning outfit was without a shadow of doubt—fitting for the occasion. The red wine Valentine bunny rabbit set, composed of six pieces and paired with pink-purple knee-high boots, gave her the right amount of allure with a dash of sexy/tomboy flair. The knee-highs with faux leather leg warmers elevated the ensemble, adding a futuristic modern spin on the trending 90s Harajuku grunge look. Her body looked unreal in the double-sided hot pants and faux fur-lined bra as she strutted the Windmill ‘runway’ street, almost identical to a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Draped in an AJewellers diamond chain and Chrome Heart rings, DJ Skyla made her appearance, her hat embracing her head like a heavyweight champ’s hood—she, in fact, remained undefeated in a star-studded crowd filled with supporters.
Skyla Tylaa painted London Town wine red and, ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you sell out your first headline show.
